SEASON FINALE WITH LUFFA
And so it was, the last sail of the year. The forecast promised plenty of wind and sunshine. We set off on Saturday morning, deciding to head north. A brisk southeast wind of 7-8 m/s was blowing, and we set our course for Stora Nassa.
But soon, we noticed that the wind was expected to shift 180 degrees overnight, and since Stora Nassa has few natural harbors that can handle such a shift, we decided to look for a more sheltered port.
After sailing through Björkskär, we tacked to port and navigated into the old fishing route south of Möja, where we found a beautiful, sheltered harbor called Lökaholmarna. The sun was shining, and we grilled burgers as the sun set, enjoying the perfect evening.
The following day, the wind had indeed shifted to the north, so we decided to sail south again, but with a detour past Stora Nassa. Once there, we dropped anchor and enjoyed a delicious lunch before hoisting the spinnaker and heading south once more.
We had a fantastic sail down to Hallskär, maintaining a steady eight knots with the spinnaker up. Upon arrival, we found a chartered sailboat flying the French flag in the bay, but they kept a low profile and didn’t make much noise.
By evening, David prepared one of his signature dishes, choucroute garnie, with sausages, sauerkraut, potatoes, white wine, and more. It’s always delicious, but I have to say, it might just taste best aboard a boat in the autumn.
The next morning, I kicked off the day with a few laps around the island, followed by a refreshing swim. In the end, I covered just over five kilometers and climbed 180 meters. After that, we took a walk around this beautiful island. It turned out to be Petter and David’s first time here.
Next, we headed east toward Fisksätra for the de-rigging. Once again, the winds were on our side, and we flew the spinnaker for the third day in a row. The de-rigging went incredibly smoothly, taking less than an hour. A huge thanks to David and Petter. What an incredible way to close out the season!
