SOLO SAILING AT SUNSET
As the sailing season was coming to a close, I felt a bit stressed about how little time I’d spent on the water this year. So, I decided to take a short solo trip over the weekend. I didn’t head out until 4 PM, which made for a brief but enjoyable sail to Torkorna before the evening darkness rolled in.
The weather was stunning, and while there were plenty of boats out, the little bay was completely empty. I’d never anchored here before, but it turned out to be a beautiful spot—great depth all the way in. After a few tries, I managed to dock without too much drama. It’s always a little tricky when you’re on your own, but it worked out in the end.
As evening approached, a thick fog rolled in, and the wind began to pick up, sweeping over the cliffs. It felt a bit tense with the wind coming around the corner and hitting the boat from the side, but I set out an anchor spring, so it still felt manageable. I then settled in with a Western movie and some goulash. Later in the evening, the fog lifted, and the sky opened up, revealing a stunning starry night. It was pure magic!
The following morning, I had breakfast in the cockpit—such a simple pleasure. Then it was time to head home, and I had a beautiful, smooth sail back with light winds. It’s not every day you can sail in shorts and a t-shirt in September.
Next weekend will be the last sail before the boat gets hauled out for the season. But next year, there has to be more sailing!
