SKI TOURING GETVALEN
Just two weeks after Easter, I'm back in Åre to soak up the last bits of winter. Today marked my first ski tour at Storulvån, and it couldn’t have been better. A big group of us gathered, not only to celebrate Allan's milestone birthday but also to enjoy skiing in all its forms. The weather was absolutely stunning, and honestly, there wasn’t a thing to complain about all day.
We started at a parking lot a few kilometers before Storulvån Mountain Station. It was -3°C when we arrived, and a bit chilly at first. But as soon as we got moving and started picking up the pace, we quickly warmed up.
We hiked up the valley between Tväråklumpen and Snasahögarna, and the scenery was absolutely breathtaking. Along the way, we even spotted a few people kiting on skis. At the foot of Lillsnasen, we stopped for a quick coffee break and adjusted our gear before tackling the steepest section toward the summit.
After around 30 minutes, we reached the summit of Getvalen, at 1322 meters above sea level, and were treated to panoramic views in all directions. After removing our skins, we had some fantastic turns as we made our way back down. The upper part was a bit icy, but just below, we found a few centimeters of soft powder snow. Near the top, we even spotted fresh reindeer tracks in the snow.
Back down in the valley, we took a well-deserved lunch break in the sunshine before starting our hike up Lillsnasen. This time, we settled for a shorter climb, just a few hundred meters up on the northern side. But the ride down was absolutely amazing! The snow was perfect!
After that, we made our way back down to the cars. What an unforgettable day, and the weather was just perfect! This is definitely a day to remember. Now, all I want is to go back, but that’ll have to wait until next winter.
