HIKING STORULVÅFJÄLLET

On our second day in Åre, we drove to Storulvån with the intention of hiking up Getryggen. However, when we arrived, we were surprised to find much more snow than we had anticipated. The entire summit was completely covered, so we quickly adjusted our plans and decided to hike up Storulvåfjället instead. It turned out to be a great choice!

At the beginning, we struggled through deep snow, and I started to question whether continuing was a good idea. But the guys insisted we press on, and thankfully, they were right. Once we got a bit higher up the mountain, the going got much easier.

In the distance, we could see Getryggen to the north. At first, the summit was shrouded in clouds, but after an hour, the clouds began to clear, revealing the peak. It's an impressive mountain that has been on my bucket list for a long time.

After about an hour of hiking and a quick break, we finally reached the summit of Storulvåfjället. The view that day could have been better, but it was still quite good. Among the rocks at the top, we found an old metal box with a guestbook, where we recorded our visit.

Afterward, we enjoyed our lunch and continued south. The weather improved, and we were treated to a stunning view of the mighty Syl massif to the south.

The birches hadn’t yet begun to bud here. We continued down to the suspension bridge that crosses over to Lill-Ulvån, where the banks were packed with melting snow.

The last stretch back to Storulvån’s mountain station was smooth. We came across a herd of reindeer and a pair of grouse engaged in their mating ritual, completely unbothered by our presence. On the way home, we took a moment to visit Handölsforsen. It was a fantastic trip, even if a little cold.
