SUMMIT HIKE TO SYLARNA
After doing several day hikes in Åre over the past few years, we decided at the start of the year to take on a longer hike in the fall. Once again, we aimed for the the Jämtland Triangle, but this time with tents and our own food. On Wednesday evening, we boarded the night train to Åre, which took us to Enafors, where we then transferred to a bus to reach Storulvån.
JÄMTLAND TRIANGLE WITH THE FAMILY
In the beginning of the year, my wife asked me what I wanted for my 50th birthday. She had a trip to Norway in mind, but planning a trip without consulting me first, especially regarding vacation time, wasn't easy. After thinking it over, I realized what I truly wanted — for the family to hike the Jämtland Triangle together!
HIKING HÅLLFJÄLLET
Today marked our final day in Åre for this trip. We've completed most of the trails around the area, but one still remained—Hållfjället! So, we packed a picnic, grabbed our gear, and drove out to Ottsjö to explore the final trail on our list.
HIKING STORULVÅFJÄLLET
On our second day in Åre, we drove to Storulvån with the intention of hiking up Getryggen. However, when we arrived, we were surprised to find much more snow than we had anticipated. The entire summit was completely covered, so we quickly adjusted our plans and decided to hike up Storulvåfjället instead. It turned out to be a great choice!
SUMMIT HIKE TO MIDDAGSVALEN
After last year’s successful hikes over the Pentecost weekend in Åre, we couldn’t resist returning this year. With Sweden’s National Day on Tuesday, we took Monday off, giving us three days of hiking. This time, David could join us, which was a great addition! Unfortunately, Petter couldn’t start with us, so he took the night train and met us on Sunday morning.
FAMILY HIKE TO RENFJÄLLET
Today, we decided to head up to Renfjället once again. Vera and I had been there a couple of weeks earlier, but now it was time for Molly and the dogs to experience the beautiful mountain as well.
THE WESTERN TRAIL TO SKUTAN
Today, Vera and I hiked the western trail to the top of Åreskutan (Trail 214). The trail is 7.6 km long with a steep ascent of 860 meters. The weather was absolutely perfect, and the mood was high!
MULLFJÄLLET WITH THE FAMILY
The family’s first hike together in the mountains went pretty well. We headed straight out the door in Tegefjäll and made our way up Mullfjället. To avoid the climb through the slopes in Duved, we took a shortcut up via Englandsbacken.
SUN ABOVE OTTFJÄLLET
Today marked our final day of hiking for this trip. After checking the weather forecast, which promised a bit of sunshine, we saved the best mountain for last. Ottfjället truly is a highlight!
HIKING GROFJÄLLET
Today, we decided to hike the Grofjällsrundan (trail 223). The journey begins in Edsåsdalen, taking you first through dense spruce forests that gradually transition into birch woodlands, before reaching the open mountain plateau. It was a cloudy day, perfect for a mountain hike!
VÄLLISTE IN THE FOG
It was our first summer in Åre, and Marcus, Petter, and I were eager to get out on the trails. Even though it was only early June and still a bit early for mountain hiking, we couldn’t resist heading up over the Pentecost weekend. We left Thursday evening, excited for three amazing day hikes ahead!
