LUFFA VS HUXFLUX
Once again this year, Ornö Runt was canceled due to the pandemic, but Berndt and I were so eager to sail that we decided to create our own race around Ornö—Luffa vs Huxflux. So, Marcus came up from Västervik, and we sailed down to Kolnäsviken on Friday evening, where we met up with Berndt. The next morning, the race was on!
Since it felt a bit dull to sail around the island and return to Kolnäsviken, we decided to mix things up and set course for Koxviken on Biskopsön instead. So, the new course became: start just outside Kolnäsviken, round the northern tip of Ornö, round the southern tip of Fjärdlång, and finish just outside the entrance to Koxviken.
Marcus and I gained a slight lead at the start and managed to hold onto it all the way to the northern tip of Ornö. However, when it was time for the tack on the north side of Ornö, we couldn’t keep up with Huxflux, which clearly had a faster upwind performance. Huxflux extended its lead on the tack, but as we neared the southern tip of Fjärdlång, we started to close the gap again.
It didn’t take long before we caught up, and we hoisted the spinnaker as we headed towards Biskopsön. With a small margin, we managed to cross the finish line just ahead of Huxflux, claiming first place. Once in port, we enjoyed a relaxing after-sail and a beautiful evening in the sun. All in all, a perfect day.
