SEASON FINALE WITH LUFFA
And so it was, the last sail of the year. The forecast promised plenty of wind and sunshine. We set off on Saturday morning, deciding to head north. A brisk southeast wind of 7-8 m/s was blowing, and we set our course for Stora Nassa.
SOLO SAILING AT SUNSET
As the sailing season was coming to a close, I felt a bit stressed about how little time I’d spent on the water this year. So, I decided to take a short solo trip over the weekend. I didn’t head out until 4 PM, which made for a brief but enjoyable sail to Torkorna before the evening darkness rolled in.
SUMMIT HIKE TO SYLARNA
After doing several day hikes in Åre over the past few years, we decided at the start of the year to take on a longer hike in the fall. Once again, we aimed for the the Jämtland Triangle, but this time with tents and our own food. On Wednesday evening, we boarded the night train to Åre, which took us to Enafors, where we then transferred to a bus to reach Storulvån.
JÄMTLAND TRIANGLE WITH THE FAMILY
In the beginning of the year, my wife asked me what I wanted for my 50th birthday. She had a trip to Norway in mind, but planning a trip without consulting me first, especially regarding vacation time, wasn't easy. After thinking it over, I realized what I truly wanted — for the family to hike the Jämtland Triangle together!
TRAIL RUNNING RENFJÄLLET
My week in Åre continues, and today I decided to take on the challenge of running up Renfjället. This stunning mountain is a real favorite of mine, with its beautiful small lakes at the top. And as the cherry on top, you can enjoy a waffle at Vita Renen once you're there.
OTTSJÖ 12K
Last night, I woke up with a wave of anxiety about the upcoming race. I started running for the health, the adventure, and the love of nature, but now I was suddenly expected to deliver a performance and see my name on a results list.
HIKING LILLSKUTAN
Today, I decided to hike up to Lillskutan, but instead of the usual serpentine trails above Fjällgården, I chose to start from Björnen for a change.
CONQUERING VÄLLISTE
Today, I went on my first run up a mountain! On my first day of vacation, I chose to run the Välliste loop. I hiked this same trail last summer, but the summit was covered in thick fog, so I couldn’t enjoy the view at the time. But today, I seized the opportunity and tackled the steepest part first, running the trail in reverse.
HIKING HÅLLFJÄLLET
Today marked our final day in Åre for this trip. We've completed most of the trails around the area, but one still remained—Hållfjället! So, we packed a picnic, grabbed our gear, and drove out to Ottsjö to explore the final trail on our list.
HIKING STORULVÅFJÄLLET
On our second day in Åre, we drove to Storulvån with the intention of hiking up Getryggen. However, when we arrived, we were surprised to find much more snow than we had anticipated. The entire summit was completely covered, so we quickly adjusted our plans and decided to hike up Storulvåfjället instead. It turned out to be a great choice!
SUMMIT HIKE TO MIDDAGSVALEN
After last year’s successful hikes over the Pentecost weekend in Åre, we couldn’t resist returning this year. With Sweden’s National Day on Tuesday, we took Monday off, giving us three days of hiking. This time, David could join us, which was a great addition! Unfortunately, Petter couldn’t start with us, so he took the night train and met us on Sunday morning.
GULLVIVERALLYT 2023
In this year's Gullviverally, we sailed for the first time in many years with the original crew, Team Luffa – that is, David, Marcus, Petter, and me. The kids had to stay home this time because it was all about "old man's sailing" on the agenda!
SEASON PREMIERE TO BISKOPSÖN
On Saturday, I launched Luffa, and by evening, the guys came over so we could step the mast. The following morning, we cast off for a sail out into the archipelago. The season is finally underway!
SKATING IN BROTTBY
Today, we enjoyed a fantastic ice-skating trip up to Brottby. We checked off Hersen, Tärnan, and Långsjön, covering about 3 miles in total. The ice was in decent condition, and the frosty, beautiful weather made the experience even better.
DAY TRIP TO STORULVÅN
The autumn break continues, and today we drove to Handöl to check out Handölsforsen. The weather was perfect, with bright sunshine and wonderfully crisp air.
FISH STEW AT OTTSJÖN
The autumn break in Åre continues. Today, we hiked the Norra Ridvadsrundan (Trail 262) to Ottsjön. It's a shorter trail that's perfect for this time of year. The path had plenty of boardwalks and was dry and in great condition.
TYSKHUVUDET WITH VERA
The first autumn break in Åre got off to a great start! While Molly was training the dogs with a friend in Järpen, Vera, Bosse, and I headed up the slopes of Tegefjäll and made our way to Tyskhuvudet. It was a short but incredibly beautiful hike, about 7 km round-trip.
EVENING TOUR IN KOLSTRÖM
Tonight I had a lovely trip from Dyviken out to Baggensfjärden and back. It was a colorful ride that also offered a little dip when I had to adjust the seat ;)
KAYAK TOUR IN SÄBYVIKEN
Today I had a lovely trip in Säbyviken with Allan and Karin. The sun was out and the autumn leaves stood in all their glory along the coast.
AUTUMN SAILING TO SADELÖGA
Last weekend, we enjoyed our final weekend at sea before the boat gets hauled out. David came up from Kalmar, and we set off on Saturday morning. The sun was shining, and the winds were in our favor.
